Misunderstanding regarding School Districts

The Merger Study Administrator has posted this post on behalf of author, Dave Bales:

Although I was unable to attend the 'combined' session re merger, I attended every meeting prior including one at RH, and the primary detail I noticed was the misunderstanding which so many people in the audience had about their theory re: the school districts being combined---which is NOT the plan as Uchitelle has presented the matter, somehow he must do something "legal" to assure residents that such will not occur.

It is only within Mayor Uchitelle's scope to tell Clayton Citizens that merging the school districts will not be discussed in the merger studies. He cannot assure this because the resolutions to form the Joint Study Committee did not preclude their discussion. Nonetheless, I trust his word that this will not happen. Further, merging school districts would require cooperation from Maplewood, Brentwood, and Ladue.

On the other hand, if the citizens voted to merge the cities, it would be reasonable to believe that the issue of merging the school districts would surface at some later time. There is no way Mayor Uchitelle could foree this or prevent it if he did. By that time, someone else would possibly be Mayor.
