Fair and Open
Clayton Mayor Uchitelle has spoken on several occasions of how the processes regarding the study of the potential merger between Clayton and Richmond Heights will be fair and open. Again, at last night's joint meeting between Clayton and Richmond Heights he spoke the same several times. Unfortunately, the actions didn't measure up to the words.
The purpose of the meeting was for each city to discuss and potentially approve companion resolutions to proceed with the merger study. The printed agenda did not allow for citizens to comment on the proceedings. (There had been no merger-specific open forums in the last five months!) There was no microphone for public comment. The joint resolution was passed with no discussion by Clayton and very little comment by Richmond Heights. And then, only after the resolution was passed, again in the name of openness, did Mayor Uchitelle ask the audience if they had any comments.
Yup, fair and open.

Once again I must take issue with your statements. You say "there
had been no merger-specific open forums in the last five months". Perhaps you are parsing the words "merger-specific open forums" but indeed there has been ongoing open discussion on this matter. In fact, at a recent meeting at Richmond Heights on this very subject you attended and read a long statement of your position. Was that not "fair and open"? At the end of the meeting last evening we opened it to public
comments. You and others were in attendance but chose not to speak. I'm not sure why but that certainly was your prerogative.
